DPWH eyes completion of Pantabangan-Canili Bypass this 2022

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) -- Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) eyes completion of the four-kilometer Pantabangan-Canili Bypass Road before the end of 2022.

This will give motorists a more convenient travel going to Baler, Aurora.

“DPWH started construction of the bypass road in 2013 and in December 2021, the first five phases of the project were reported to have been completed. However, the project’s bridge components have not yet been fully finished,” DPWH Regional Director Roseller Tolentino said.

Under FY 2021 General Appropriations Act, the national government has allocated P105.40 million for the sixth phase of the project which includes the completion of Canili Bridge III and other structures at Canili Bridge I and II, and the widening of 3.293-kilometer section of the bypass road.

“As of April 2022, the project’s Phase VI has an accomplishment rate of 6.5 percent and we are targeting its full opening by October this year,” he shared.

Once completed, it will no longer be necessary for travelers to cross the one-way access road over the Canili-Diayo Dam and traffic will be diverted from the existing Canili-Alfonso Castañeda Road to this new road.

DPWH is simultaneously undertaking road projects that will provide travelers and tourists easy access to the top tourism destinations in Central Luzon. (CLJD-PIA 3)
