TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – The Department of Health-Center for Health and Development recorded 1, 516 dengue cases from January to May 2022, with four deaths – one in Isabela and three in Cagayan.
Dr. Romulo Turingan, head of the Disease Prevention and Control Cluster, said that these findings have now reached the alert threshold, in contrast to the 151 cases in January to May 2021.
Of the said cases this year, 543 were in Cagayan, 808 in Isabela, 187 in Nueva Vizcaya, 56 in Quirino, and two in Batanes.
Turingan said they have already coordinated with the local government units to undertake the 4S Kontra Dengue program or Search and Destroy, Seek Early Consultation, Self-Protection, Say Yes to Fogging.
He said that insecticides were already provided to some areas and schools for fogging purposes.
“We have also coordinated with the Department of Education to ensure the cleanliness of [school] surroundings especially that they are now into limited face-to-face classes,” Turingan said.
Parents and guardians are likewise advised to ensure that their children wear jogging pants or clothes with long sleeves for their protection as well as the use of mosquito repellants.
Dengue, according to the DOH, is the fastest spreading vector-borne disease in the world and transmitted by day-biting Aedes eagypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitos. (OTB/GVB PIA Cagayan)
