PIA6 IWAG Award cites outstanding campus editors

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) –- Thirty nine graduating campus paper editors who made the cut from more than 50 entries all over the region were recognized with an IWAG Award from the Philippine Information Agency 6.

Of the 39 IWAG awardees, 22 are senior high school editors while 17 are college editors who joined the esteemed roster of IWAG Awardees since 1977.

PIA 6 regional head Chery B. Amor thanked the school publications and the school paper advisers for their participation in this annual award.

“We, at the Philippine Information Agency 6, trust that with the various training we have provided and this recognition, our campus journalists will be inspired to continue to be torchbearers of timely, accurate and relevant information as they move on to the next phases of their lives,” Amor said.

Negros Occidental has 15 senior high school (SHS) awardees and seven college awardees; Iloilo has one SHS and five college awardees; Aklan has three each for SHS and college; Antique has one SHS and two college; and Capiz has two college awardees.

Negros Occidental awardees include Gem Francin Diola and Josef Henri Tumbagahan from Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod; Kristen Thea Lozada and Keziah Patrice Jocson from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos; Jewel Irish Belascuain, Lou Marcial Cuesta, John Rosh Macasero, and Ma. Angela Baloyo from the University of St. La Salle; Shekijah Jabagat, Christian Denila , and Julianne Marc Tamayo from the Bacolod City National High School; Erl Myca

Lozada and Kamila Victoria Anne Espelita from La Consolacion College Bacolod; Sophia Dominique Azcona and Mary Felize Feria from St. John's Institute.

The college awardees here are Kynah Rhea B. Fuentes and Ivee E. Manguilimotan from the University of St. La Salle; Rengil V. Mana-ay and Ruer G. Torculas from John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation (Bacolod) Inc.; Romchelle Chris Danielle Waminal from the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos; Mary Jane Hortelano and Arienne Amodia from Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod.

IWAG Awardees from Aklan are Blessy Sairah Regalado, Gabrielli Isabelle Barrios and Vheanel Therese Iquiña- all from the Regional Science High School; and Quennie Q. Irarum from Aklan Catholic College; John Mark Francisco from Aklan State University-Main Campus; and Almera Manalili from Aklan State University Ibajay Campus.

From Iloilo province, the awardees include Christian Jaud from Pavia National High School; and for college awardees are Orlando M. Gamilla Jr. and JB Ryan Babas from West Visayas State University- College of Education; Aye Andrea Meg G. Padpad from West Visayas State University – College of Nursing; and Zharina Marie Stephanie P. Lugo and Kathleen Frugalidad from Central Philippine University.

In Antique, SHS IWAG Awardee is Joshua Rizardo from Antique Vocational School; for college, Charls Jun Bado from the University of Antique TLM Campus and Francis Mission from the University of Antique Main.

Capiz has two SHS IWAG awardees, namely, Chariz Dianne Dorado Falco and Lorenz Jude Contillo Celoso both from Capiz National High School.

Each awardee will receive a medal and a certificate.

The IWAG AWARD is an incentive scheme designed by the Philippine Information Agency in Region VI, to give recognition to campus paper writers who excel in development communication and related fields, including academic performance as it cited the student editors for promoting national development through campus journalism.
