La Union eyes peaceful province after 2022 polls

SAN FERNANDO CITY, June 7 (PIA) -- Local officials and stakeholders in La Union have expressed their commitment to a peaceful and orderly province following the May 9, 2022 National and Local Elections.

On Monday, the La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPPO) conducted the Post-Elections Pledge of Support Signing at the Camp Diego Silang grounds in this city.

Some electoral candidates, including Governor-elect Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David, as well as heads of provincial government agencies, law enforcement agencies, and advocacy support groups, were in attendance.

The event was highlighted when the participants took an oath of support before signing the pledge of commitment to achieving a ‘fair La Union.’

PCOL Jonathan Calixto, La Union police director, said the commitment signing after the elections is one of the best practices of the Police Regional Office 1 which the LUPPO undertakes “so that peace and order and prosperity should prevail.”

“We, in the Philippine National Police, will continue our mandate towards peace and order, prosperity, and progress, and other police service as part of our measures during the post-election period in the province,” Calixto said.

Further, Ortega lauded the police force for their work during the recent elections.

“Your holistic oriented efforts to ensure a violent-free and fraud-free election gave our kaprobinsiaan the freedom to choose the next local and national leaders without any apprehensions,” she said.

Meanwhile, Atty. Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor, informed that the May 9 elections was “the most orderly, most peaceful, and fastest elections that we have, so far, conducted…of course, without sacrificing the accuracy and transparency of the result.”

He likewise thanked the voters who braved the pandemic to vote for national and local leaders.

In La Union, 471,231 cast their vote out of of 538,730 registered voters which recorded a high voter turnout of 87.17 percent. (JCR/JPD, PIA La Union)
