MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--City Mayor Majul Gandamra urged Marawi residents to work hard and learn to stand on their own two feet.
He said they should not rely solely on aid and assistance as the government will not be able to provide it for a longer period of time.
"We have to strive hard at kailangan maging self-sustainable ang ating pagbangon [we have to strive hard and our recovery should be self-sustainable]," he stressed during the June 7 episode of Network Briefing News.
Nevertheless, Gandamra is grateful to the national government and humanitarian organizations, both local and international, for helping in the rehabilitation effort.
He is likewise thankful for the passage of the Republic Act (RA) 11696 or the Marawi Siege Compensation Act of 2022 which would help hasten the recovery of his displaced constituents.
The city mayor is hoping that the implementation of the said act would also be fast-tracked by the incoming administration.
RA 11696 was signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to provide monetary compensation to Marawi residents who lost family members and whose properties were damaged during the five-month battle between government forces and Daesh-inspired terrorists in 2017. (APB/PIA-10 Lanao del Sur)
