CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) -- About 2,000 government employees and volunteers in Central Luzon planted over 17,000 bamboos, native and fruit-bearing trees in identified Expanded National Greening Program (ENGP) sites.
 
This is part of efforts to heighten rehabilitation and conservation efforts of the remaining forestlands and watersheds in the region.
 
Department of Environment and Natural Resources Regional Executive Director Paquito Moreno, Jr. stressed that the convergence of different national government agencies in the nationwide tree planting activity illustrated the theme of Philippine Environment Month this 2022, which has called for a collective and transformative action in protecting and conserving the environment.
 
“The message we want to demonstrate in this year’s observance of Philippine Environment Month embodies our collective effort and shared commitment to nurture our ecological wealth, particularly the 942,387 hectares of forestland areas of Central Luzon,” he emphasized.
 
Simultaneous tree growing activity was held in the 38-hectare forestland areas in the region.
 
It covers the ENGP sites in Dilasag, Maria Aurora and Dingalan in Aurora; Limay and Morong in Bataan; Doña Remedios Trinidad and Norzagaray in Bulacan; Carranglan, Gabaldon, Santa Rosa, and Bongabon in Nueva Ecija; Arayat in Pampanga; San Jose in Tarlac; and Subic and Botolan in Zambales.
