LAOAG CITY, June 9 (PIA) – Malacañang has officially declared June 20 as special non-working holiday in Laoag City in celebration of the city’s 57th charter day anniversary.
Based on Proclamation No. 1385, the Office of the City Mayor has requested for the declaration of the holiday on June 20 in lieu of the Charter Day Anniversary on June 19 which falls on a Sunday.
The Palace has recognized the need to enable Laoageños to celebrate the occasion of Laoag’s cityhood.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Laoag be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to the public health measures of the national government,” as stated in the proclamation signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.


This year, the city government came up with several activities anchored on the anniversary celebration which is also in line with the city’s Marunggay Festival.
This includes food fair at the Aurora Park and Barangay Calayab, marunggay planting activity, dulang cookfest, awarding of LaoagInYou singing contest, and recognition of best performing barangays in Laoag City.
By virtue of Republic Act 4584, Laoag City became a city in 1965 and approved through a plebiscite. (JCR/AMB/MJTAB/PIA Ilocos Norte)
