NFA offers mobile palay buying

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- A mobile palay procurement is being employed by the National Food Authority (NFA) - Capiz Branch Office to make the government's palay procurement program more accessible to the farmers.

The initiative also aims to ensure NFA's enough buffer supply of rice in preparation for calamities and emergencies as the private palay traders are also buying the farmer's harvest.

Under the mobile procurement scheme, the NFA will pick up the farmers' palay in the agreed place and schedule.

"Operations starting from classifying of palay stocks, rebagging to NFA sack,  weighing and payment will be done in the trading area in the presence of the individual farmer or the representatives of the cooperatives," said NFA Branch Office Acting Public Information Officer Salve Mae Agustin.

The scheme is free of charge and only needs proper coordination between the two parties.

She added that mobile teams travel to far-flung areas in the province to cater farmers who have good quality of stored palay but need support to transport their produce to the nearest buying stations.

The mobile procurement is also being conducted in Aklan to bring the program to the farthest municipalities in the province.

In 2021, the NFA Capiz and Aklan Provincial Offices merged and are now known now as NFA Capiz Branch Office.

NFA’s palay procurement program is an existing scheme of the agency pursuant to RA11203 or the Rice Tariffication Law. (AAL/PIA Capiz)
