RA 11642: Child adoption process in Ph made simple, less costly

QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- Legal child adoption in the Philippines has become a simple, expeditious, and inexpensive process with the passing of a new law this year.

The National Authority for Child Care (NACC) is currently in the process of drafting the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Republic Act 11642, also known as the ‘Domestic Administrative Adoption and Alternative Child Care Act’ which became effective on January 28, 2022.

The law has removed the judicial requirements and the lodging of the adoption process, and it is now under the National Authority for Child Care (NACC).

RA 11642 has declared every second week of June as the ‘Adoption and Alternative Child Care Week’.  The Protection Services Division of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) spearheaded this year’s regional kick-off activity with a blended modality. The onsite kick-off activity was held in Lubang, Occidental Mindoro on June 3.

A Media Forum was held as an online kick-off activity via Zoom, live-streamed through the official Facebook page of the DSWD-Mimaropa on June 9.

One of the speakers during the forum was Gina Escalante of the NACC, who discussed the salient points of the RA 11642, including the requirements for adoption, processes involved, implications to existing laws and other transitory clauses.

Inquiries and concerns regarding adoption matters may further be discussed through the NACC website (https://www.nacc.gov.ph), or visit their office located at #2 Chicago cor. Ermine Garcia Sts., Brgy. Pinagkaisahan, Cubao Quezon City.

NACC contact details: Telephone (7)503-6226; (632) 8721-9711; (632) 8726-4568; Cellphone No: (+63) 917-8303516 (MBR/PIAR4B)
