PNP, PVAO lead 124th Independence Day celeb

SAN FERNANDO CITY, June 13 (PIA) -- The La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPPO) and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), in collaboration with the Local Government of Luna celebrated the 124th Independence Day at USAFIP-NL, Military Shrine and Park in Luna town on June 12.


The event themed “Kalayaan 2022: Pagsuong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas,” marked the resiliency of Filipinos in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.


According to PCol. Jonathan G. Calixto, La Union police director, the crisis is not a hindrance to achieving unity.


“Sa paglipas ng panahon, pinapatunayan natin na ang ating kasarinlan ay susi ng ating pagkabuklod-buklod sa anumang hamon o sakuna gaya ng pandemya. Ngunit hindi ito hadlang para maipakita ang diwa ng malayang sambayanan na siyang patuloy na nagbibigay ng pag-asa sa bawat mamamayang Pilipino,” said Calixto.


Meanwhile, in his message, PBGen. Enrique N. Magalona, deputy regional director for administration of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), urged the men and women of the police force to take all the courage of Filipino heroes who have fought for the country’s freedom.


“Samahan natin ang ating gobyerno at ang sambayanang Pilipino sa pagsulong ng tunay na pagbabago sa buong bansa. Bilang alagad ng batas at mga modernong katipunero, nabigyan tayo ng oportunidad na patuloy nating pangalagaan ang ating Kalayaan,” Magalona said.


Magalona also aid tribute to the personnel of the PRO1 who offered their lives for the betterment of the entire region.


During the simple observance, the LUPPO rendered its salute during the simultaneous flag-raising ceremony followed by the offering of flowers and releasing of doves as a symbol of freedom and peace.


Further, the participants also conducted coconut tree planting activity and a mini tour in tourist spots of Luna for the Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo from San Gabriel town. (JCR/JPD/KCR, PIA La Union)
