DepEd  inaugurates  modernized NEAP in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) - - Department of Education (DepEd) national officials headed by Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan led the inauguration  of the newly renovated  and modernized National Educators’ Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) building inside Teachers Camp here last June 9.


Malaluan said   the upgrading of the training facility in Baguio City aims to better support the professional development needs of public school teachers through the provision of infrastructure and equipment that are highly adaptive to the fast – changing education landscape. It is an important component of the broader NEAP Transformation Program.


The facility has a cafeteria, a library and its conference rooms are equipped with fast internet connection. It has also interactive rooms for in-service professional development programs of teachers and school leaders.

 “The realization of the goal to improve basic education quality as articulated in Sulong Edukalidad will depend heavily on the upskilling and reskilling of teachers,” Malaluan stressed.


DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, in her video message, outlined the importance of upskilling and reskilling the teachers, who are at the forefront of winning the battle for quality education.


 “Winning the education’s battle for equality will take many years of work for us in the education sector, but ultimately, our teachers will be at the frontlines of this fight. As we work towards our goal of improving quality through Sulong EduKalidad, we recognize the urgent need to upskill and reskill our teachers so that they will be equipped to meet the changing standards, landscapes, and context of basic education,” the Secretary said.


The NEAP Transformation Program which expands and improves the quality of professional development trainings will surely contribute to teachers’ competence, Briones said.


Along with the inauguration of the NEAP – Baguio facility, DepEd also launched the NEAP Transformation program and Professional Development Information System (PDIS).


According to DepEd, PDIS is an information system designed for DepEd teachers and personnel to record training authorizations, training recognition, Individual Development (PD credit units), Learning Management System, Learning Resources, Quality Management, and Monitoring and Evaluation attended by PDIS account holders.


The DepEd national and regional officials were joined by Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong and Congressman Mark Go, represented by his daughter Charis, and other stakeholders in the inauguration and launching program. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
