DAGUPAN CITY, June 14 (PIA) – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is calling all regular second year college students enrolled in science and technology priority courses to avail of the scholarship privileges of DOST as the 2022 Junior Level Science Scholarships (JLSS) electronic application (e-application) is now open for applicants.
Jennifer Fernandez, science research specialist II of DOST-Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) in Urdaneta City, said the e-application for the 2022 JLSS of DOST- Science Education Institute under Republic Act (RA) 7687, Merit and RA 10612 scholarship program is now open for application of students for academic year 2022 to 2023.
The e-application for 2022 JLSS Scholarship program opened on June 9 and will run until July 31, 2022.
Fernandez said applicants for this academic year would undergo a pen and paper qualifying examination that is set on August 27-28, 2022.
She said that among the scholarship privileges are monthly living allowance, tuition fee subsidies for those enrolled in private higher education institutions amounting to P40,000 per year, thesis allowance worth P10,000 for graduating students, learning materials, and connectivity allowance worth P10,000 and premium group health and accident insurance.
“RA No. 7687 provides scholarships to poor but deserving students whose families’ annual gross incomes do not exceed the poverty threshold limit while the Merit scholarship program is awarded to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and are willing to pursue careers in the fields of science and technology,” Fernandez said in an interview on Tuesday.
Likewise, Fernandez said for RA 10612 or also known as Fast-Tracked S&T Scholarship Act of 2013, scholars would be required to serve as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) teachers for a minimum of two years in any public or private high school in the country.
“Interested students may file their application with complete requirements at https://jlss.science-scholarships.ph where forms and other special instructions are available,” she said.
