‘#YouthHour2022’ up this August in Boracay

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The youth advocacy group, Positive Youth Development Network, Inc. (PYDN), is set to lead the #YouthHour2022 International Youth Day Celebration at Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan this August 11-12, 2022.

The upcoming event was formally launched during the recent Youth in Governance Fair 2022, organized by PYDN along with other youth advocacy groups and non-government organizations, the National Youth Commission Iloilo Area Office, and One Western Visayas Youth Coalition, and supported by the member agencies of the Regional Inter-Agency Committee on Youth Development (RIACYD) 6.

In his message, PYDN Executive Director Alfred O. Dicto noted that #YouthHour is envisioned to be the Earth Hour of youth engagement and asks the young people to ignite the fire of passion and their indispensable role in nation-building.

“This is for us to collectively celebrate the contributions and sacrifices of young people for nation-building. This is now our third year and is being celebrated from 12 noon to 1 P.M. of August 12,” Dicto said.

He added that previous celebrations, since its establishment in 2020, were conducted online, and for this year they chose to celebrate in Boracay Island to

further highlight the event among its other youth development advocacies.

#YouthHour2022 with the theme “For our youth. For our Nation. For our Future” is co-organized by the province of Aklan, municipality of Malay, Office of the SK Federation Presidents of Aklan Province and Malay town, Unilab Foundation, National Youth Commission-Iloilo Area Office, and other partners.

The activities for the 2-day event include the series of YouthTalks and Advocacy Sessions focusing on mental health, climate crisis and disinformation and democracy, the gathering of leaders for One Western Visayas, the “dance as Juan” youth parade by the beach, and the #YouthHour2022 countdown.

As one of the highlights of the event, PYDN will also conduct the final screening, presentation of winners, and conferment of the 3rd Philippine Sangguniang Kabataan Awards (PSKA).

PSKA is a seal of excellence for SK Councils committed to building a better Philippines through local high-impact innovations organized by PYDN. It showcases the most outstanding youth-led initiatives among SK Councils by providing a comprehensive assessment system for the realization of local youth development plans.

Entries of interested SK councils must be submitted on or before July 10, 2022.

Meanwhile, Dicto encouraged the youth and youth organizations that may not be able to attend the event in Boracay to put up their own advocacy bubble in their respective locality during the #YouthHour on August 12 to increase awareness. (AAL/FRG/PIA6)
