La Trinidad Mayor appeals to residents: Help COVID-19 heroes by getting vaccinated

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) – Mayor Romeo Salda  recognized  the  COVID-19 frontliners  as the modern day heroes  and  appealed to residents to help and support  them by getting vaccinated.


Salda  lauded the medical and non-medical personnel for their  efforts, dedication, and sacrifices, even risking their lives, to   care and threat COVID patients  or to   enforce   mobility restrictions and minimum health standards  during the  pandemic.


“We acknowledge our heroes in the past two years of this COVID-19 who sacrificed their lives in addressing the problem on COVID-19 in the municipality and the country,” the Mayor said during the 124th Independence Day celebration at the municipal grounds on Sunday(June 12).

He cited that  the  COVID heroes have been working to prevent the spread and infection of the virus during its peak and are until today working to vaccinate and possibly reach out to all the residents and provide protection against the possible severe effects of the COVID-19.


As the  municipality is yet to reach the 70 percent vaccination coverage of its target population,  the mayor  appeals to the residents especially those who are still unvaccinated  to  get their COVID-19 jab and  those eligible to have their booster shots as their support the  COVID-19 modern day heroes.  


During the program, Salda also  paid tribute to the heroes who fought and gave the freedom of the country being enjoyed by the Filipino people.


“We acknowledge and remember our heroes who fought against the colonizers of the country. They fought to gain the freedom and sovereignty of the Philippines which we are enjoying today” Salda said.


 He added that aside from the heroes being recognized formally and those who were written in history books, the Independence Day also honors the “Igorot” heroes including the war veterans and soldiers from the Cordilleras who also fought for the freedom of the country and their localities. 


The activity was capped by the wreath laying by the officials and other attendees.


 The simple ceremony  was attended by local officials and employees with councilors Francis Lee, Apolinario Bagano Jr. and Charles Canuto,  personnel from the La Trinidad Munucipal Police Station, Bureau of Fire Protection and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Women's Brigade, La Trinidad Masonic Lodge,  and the Sons and Daughters Association Inc.(JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
