CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - - More than 700 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from different provinces of the Cagayan Valley Region attended the Migrant Workers’ Day celebration led by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) - Regional Welfare Office No. 2 recently.
At least 29 OFWs were also assisted through OWWA programs, namely: the Financial Relief Assistance Program (FRAP) with 5 beneficiaries, Special Livelihood Program with 11 beneficiaries, the Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) program with 4 beneficiaries, Livelihood Development Assistance Program (LDAP) with 3 beneficiaries, the NRCO-BPBA with 1 beneficiary, the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program with 3 beneficiaries, and the Welfare Assistance Program with 2 beneficiaries.
The program also recognized OWWA scholars who successfully hurdled their board exams as well as a raffle draw of giveaways for program participants.
This year’s celebration aims to recognize the contribution of OFWs in the recovery of the country and the world from the dire effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the theme: “Kabayan, sa Galing at Sakripisyo Mo, Nakabangon Ang Mundo”.
The activity was led by DOLE RO2 Regional Director Joel M. Gonzales and OWWA RWO 2 OIC-Regional Director Juvilyn Anns Gumabay.
In his speech, Gonzales remarked on the significant contributions of migrant workers, particularly on their remittances, to help finance the various projects and endeavors of the government. (DOLE press release)
