Capiz has no dengue-related death

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – The province of Capiz remains to have no dengue-related death so far, according to health authorities.

Based on the Provincial Health Office’s (PHO) Dengue Case Bulletin from Jan. 1 to June 11 this year, there are 173 suspected dengue cases recorded in the province, which is 35 cases higher compared to a bulletin released a week earlier, and is 42.06 percent higher than the 126 cases of the same period in 2021.

The report added that a 23-day old baby is the youngest and a 69-year old elderly is the oldest dengue patient in the province during the period.

Most affected age bracket is from 10 years to 19 years old that comprised 36.87 percent of the total number for Morbidity Week 23.

Local health authorities have intensified the call to the public by implementing the 4S strategy in their households to curb the increasing dengue cases in the province especially that there are more opportunities for the mosquitoes to breed amid the onset of the rainy season.

The 4S strategy includes the Search and destroy of mosquito – breeding sites, Self-protection measures like wearing of

long pants and long sleeved shirts and daily use of mosquito repellants, Seek early consultation and Support fogging/spraying only in hotspot areas where increase in cases is registered for two consecutive weeks to prevent an impending outbreak.

The month of June has been declared as the National Dengue Awareness Month per Proclamation No. 1204 issued in 1998. (JBG/AAL/PIA Capiz)
