LEGAZPI CITY (Albay) – At least 105 job applicants were hired on the spot during the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE-5) “Kalayaan Job and Business Fair” held in Sorsogon City on June 12, 2022.
DOLE-5 Regional Director Ma. Zenaida A. Campita said that aside from the in-person job fair they also had an online fair simultaneously.
At the in-person jobs fair, more than 2,000 applicants turned out, braving the looming fall of ash from the restive Bulusan Volcano.
For the convenience of the applicants, a one-stop shop of government agencies provided processing of pre-employment documents.
Along with this, the DOLE-5 and the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board set up a Labor and Wage Clinic where they answered queries on employment and disseminated the new minimum wage order in the region. (PIA5/DOLE5)
Of the 105, a total of 101 applicants were hired for local employment, while four others were hired for overseas posts.
DOLE-5 said the 92 “near hires” were considered hired, but they would still need to undergo further interview or submit additional documents that they lacked during the actual jobs fair. Several others were referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for skills training.
There were 5,134 job vacancies available from 40 different employers, including the government.
