PNP to intensify community engagement under PBBM admin

LEGAZPI CITY (PIA) -- The public relations arm of the Philippine National Police is poised to enhance three of its programs under the administration of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

For one, the  Police Community Affairs and Development Group (PCADG)  plans to maximize the use of social media in communicating its community and development affairs activities and programs, said its information and communications officer, Police Lieutenant  Nomer Macaraig.

“We see the value, potential, and effectiveness of social media not only in crime prevention but also in crime solution,” Macaraig said at the Ugnayan sa Bicol briefing.

To go about it, the PNP personnel would  undergo training and courses on correspondence, journalism, and civil-military affairs to utilize social media strategically and operationally, he said.

For another, PCADG plans to upgrade the capability of regional offices in order to widen the reach and deepen commitment with local stakeholders, Macaraig said.

“Thirdly, we aim to improve our partnerships and engagement with other stakeholders, not only with the public sector but also with private institutions, businesses, non-government offices, force multipliers, and people in the grassroots,” he added.

PCADG achievements in PRRD watch

Macaraig said that over the past years, the major accomplishments of the PCADG consisted of renaming and restructuring PCADG from the Police Community Relations Group.

“This transition also incorporated the creation of the official master plan which contains the proper police guidelines in conducting police-community relations activities across the country,” he said.

Other achievements of the PCADG included the turnover of the Child Development Center as recognized by the Department of Social Welfare and Development; the establishment of the PNP Museum which highlights the rich history of the PNP organization and collects mementos of historical importance in connection with the PNP.

The Social Media Center and its advocacy support groups Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo were also founded during the term of President Duterte.

“These innovative and out-of-the-box projects are slowly making their way for the recognition of the role of PCADG, alongside all units of the PNP. We hope that all Bicolanos will support and help the police in creating a healthy relationship to attain a peaceful society,” Macaraig said. (PIA-5)
