10 Bago youths join bamboo craft skills enhancement

CABARROGUIS, Quirino (PIA) - - At least ten members of the Bago Youth Entrepreneur’s Association (BYEA) in this province recently joined the Enhancement Skills Training on Bamboo Handicrafts Making conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here.

During the enhancement skills training on bamboo handicrafts making at Maddela Integrated School of Arts and Trade.

Silvester Miguel, DTI information officer, said the training which is under the Youth Entrepreneurship Program was held at Maddela Integrated School of Arts and Trade (MISAT) where the Bago youths are currently studying.

"It has three components, namely: technology courses, product development and product launching and it is a continuation of the 2021 Youth Entrepreneurship Program where elders of the tribe handed down their existing indigenous skills to the young ones, bamboo handicraft making is one," Miguel said.

MISAT Principal, Dr. Cesario Badongen Jr. has expressed his joy to know that there are still youth that show interest to learning indigenous skills.

“We are very happy that our youth here are very interested in gaining new skills especially on bamboo handicrafts,” Badongen said.

Meanwhile, OIC Provincial Director Mary Ann Corpuz-Dy urged the participants to take the training seriously and put passion and commitment to it as she committed the full support of DTI from training, product development up to product launching.

The training was facilitated and supervised by their trainers, Prisco Barbero, owner of Prisco Bamboo Hat and a renowned bamboo handicraft maker in the region and Jonie S. Taan, BYEA adviser. (OTB/TCB/PIA Quirino)
