DA awards farming equipment to Ilocos Sur farmers

VIGAN CITY, June 29 (PIA) – The Department of Agriculture (DA), headed by Secretary William Dar, distributed farming machinery and equipment to four farmers’ cooperatives and associations of the municipality of Narvacan on Monday.
 
The turnover and awarding ceremony of the DA projects and interventions was held at the Candon City Civic Center.

The Narvacan Agricultural Cooperative of Barangay Nanguneg East received three units of pump and engine set from the Rice Banner Program worth P239,628.
 


Under the same program, one unit of combine harvester worth P1,418,000 was awarded to the Narvacaneans Farmers Association of Bantay Abot.
 


Narvacanean High Value Crops Producers and Growers Association Inc. was given three units of pump and engine set, and 225 pieces of plastic crates under the DA’s High Value Crops Development Program  worth P396,858.
 


The Bangkagan Agrarian Reform of Barangay San Antonio was given a four wheel tractor worth P1,318,500.
 


Meanwhile, the local government unit (LGU) of Narvacan also received three clusters of Sentineling Project from the Livestock Banner Program of the DA-Regional Field Office 1 worth P1,863,000.
 


Secretary Dar said that he is glad that the machinery and equipment were finally distributed to the recipients although there are only a few days left before he leaves his post as chief of the agency.

He added that through these interventions from the DA to the cooperatives and LGUs, he expects that these can provide support to the farmers to ensure food security to the country in the future.
 
Moreover, Narvacan mayor-elect Pablito Sanidad Sr. expressed his gratitude to the agriculture secretary for the assistance that was provided to the farmers’ cooperatives and associations in Narvacan, as well as the LGU. (JCR/AMB/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
