DOST-MP delivers ceramic water filters in Natonin

NATONIN, Mountain Province (PIA) -- More families in this town will have access to safe drinking water with the distribution of Ceramic Water Filters (CWF) to 232 beneficiaries from six barangays of the municipality at the Open Gymnasium in Barangay Poblacion on June 17.

The Department of Science and Technology - Mountain Province, together with the local government unit of Bauko, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Natonin made the distribution possible.

DOST Provincial Director MP Alfonso B. Berto said that this is part of DOST’s Community Empowerment thru Science & Technology (CEST) under the Health and Nutrition Entry Point.

Berto said LGU-Natonin requested   from DOST the ceramic water filters that are made in Bauko for distribution to the beneficiaries identified through a water source testing the LGU conducted.

Bauko PESO Manager Renan Jake Oyang-o demonstrated how to assemble the ceramic water filter and explained how the water filter works. He also answered queries from the beneficiaries particularly in what water source the water filter works best with.

The Ceramic Water Filtration System is made up of six parts – the cover, ceramic water filter, upper bucket, plastic hook, and the lower bucket. From tap water, the ceramic water filter that is infused with Nanosilver which kills microorganisms making the water safe for drinking.

Mayor Jose Agagon, represented by NewelleGaldayen, thanked DOST  for granting the request for  water filters as he advised  the beneficiaries  to  use and take  care what  are given them.

Parent leader Monalisa Cuison also expressed  gratitude  to the government for the  ceramic water filters which she said would assure that they have safe drinking water.

Berto said the   department thru its CEST program will bring more water filters in the municipality if there are still households that need it.

CEST is a package of S&T interventions which aims to build progressive, empowered and resilient rural communities. The program is targeting to empower the geographically isolated, poorest and most depressed communities in the country, via S&T interventions in health and nutrition, water and sanitation, basic education and literacy, livelihood/economic enterprise development, and disaster risk reduction and climate change adaption.
