TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) - - Mayor-elect Maila Ting-Que fulfilled her historic oath-taking as the first woman leader of this city today.
She was joined by reelected vice-mayor Bienvenido “Ben-Ben” de Guzman, and the members of the 9th City Council — councilors Boyet Ortiz, Grace Arago, Mark Angelo Dayag, Charo Soriano, Marjorie Martin-Chan, Tirso Mangada, Claire Callangan, and Karina Gauani.
In her message, Mayor Ting-Que vowed to give priority to agriculture to ensure food security as the city is still on the recovery process from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her other points of focus for the city’s upcoming recovery plan are the provision of livelihoods, jobs, and scholarship grants to students.
“Susuportahan natin ang ‘No-Child Left Behind’ [campaign]… Walang batang Tuguegaraoeño ang hindi matuturuang magbilang at magbasa… Itataaas [natin] ang literacy rate ng lungsod (We will support the ‘No-Child Left Behind’ [campaign]… no child from Tuguegarao will be deprived of the opportunity to learn… we will increase the city’s literacy rate),” she added.
According to her, education is very significant as it is the key to uplifting the lives of Tuguegaraoeños.
In addition, Mayor Ting-Que promised good financial management, efficiency of infrastructures, and improved housing for the people of the city.
For his part, Vice-Mayor Ben-Ben de Guzman, as head of the city council, assured that the council will be supportive of the people. He also guaranteed the independence of the council, and vowed to ensure that the city’s legislative body will stay true to its mandate of serving the people’s interests.
