Nine Abra barangays pass Seal of Good Local Governance

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) - - Nine barangays in the province of Abra   passed the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay (SGLGB) for 2021.

The SGLGB National Quality Committee cited  barangays Nagaparan in Danglas, Buli in La Paz, Poblacion in La Paz, Pacoc in Lacub, Gayaman in Lacub, Sabnangan in Lacub, Brookside in Pilar, Maguyepyep in Sallapadan, and Tangadan in San Quintin.

SGLGB is a progressive performance system that aims to give distinction to selected barangays for their remarkable performance across governance areas, putting primacy on integrity and good performance as pillars of meaningful local autonomy and development.

Based on the Department of the Interior and Local Government directive, a barangay needs to pass all the three core areas namely safety, peace, and order; financial administration and sustainability, and disaster preparedness. Additionally, it has to pass at least one of the three essential areas like social protection and sensitivity, business-friendliness, and competitiveness or environmental management.

The results will not only recognize performing barangays but will also serve as basis for provision of interventions not only in the barangays but in all levels of governance.  It will also be used for planning and budgeting, policy-making and likewise help improve in the delivery of services.

Assessment and validation was carried out during the term of DILG Abra Provincial Director Millicent B. Cariño but the results came out just recently. She is now assigned in DILG Baguio.

On its pilot phase, only one barangay entry is set per municipality. However, Cariño said seeing the potential of other barangays, they have included more than one per municipality.

According to DILG Abra, the Municipal Assessment Teams conducted the assessment of the barangays followed by the authentication of the Provincial Validation Team. The authenticated results were submitted to the Regional Validation Team for validation then to the National Barangay Operations Office. (JDP/SCA-PIA CAR, Abra)
