CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA)--Use of plastic bags or commonly known as “sando bags” and polystyrene or styrofoam is now prohibited in the city.
The ban takes effect this month with the full implementation of City Ordinance No. 003, Series of 2021.
Implementation of the ban was timely with the celebration of the International Plastic Bag- Free Day last July 3.
Before the ordinance took effect, vendors are given six months to dispose off their plastic bag and styrofoam stocks.
The ordinance also prohibits selling or supplying of said materials. Business establishments are told to use paper bags while the public is advised to bring along eco-bags and similar items for market purposes.
On its first day of implementation last July 1, a composite team from the city government rounded-up stalls at public markets and other business establishments on the use of these banned items.
Salud I. Lammawin, City Environment and Natural Resources Officer, explained the move is the city’s support to the global movement on mitigating the effects of climate change and protection of environment. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
