SPUP interns sign job with UK-based cyber security firm

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) - - Five Information Technology students of St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP) have already signed a contract with UK-based cyber security firm Secon prior to their graduation come July 16, 2022.

They will now start their professional career as part of the Secon as Security Operations Centre – Incident Response Associates, Dr. Allan Peejay Lappay, the Director for Alumni, External Relations and Advocacies of SPUP, said.

This is after they have completed their five months of training through the Cyber Academy – Secon’s Cadet Internship Program.

The students namely Alyssa Jabe Villanueva, Francis Prim Pagunuran, Fritze Allen Rae Malana, Miguel Francisco Gamiao and Jonas Gabriel Rivera are all BSIT graduating students  but already started their contact

During their training, they were trained on the comprehensive set of cyber security services and solutions and were immersed in Security Operations Centre processes.

Aside from the bridged academic learning to industry experience, the Cadets also passed several global IT Certifications including Microsoft’s Security, Compliance, and Identity.

Lappay lauded Secon Academy’s programs and for having SPUP as its partner and maiden recipient of the project.

He said that the classroom and the maiden recipient to industry bridged immersion is an enormous assurance that the Interns will start right their chosen careers.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jeremy Godofredo Morales, Director for International Relations said in the era of digital transformation the recent internship partnership with Secon was the university’s pledge to society.

Recently, SPUP President Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC, was recognized for her excellent leadership and outstanding engagement in educational administration. She has conferred the 2022 Star Achiever Award as Most Oustanding Leader in Education and Administration by the Philippine Social Media Examiner, Events and Marketing Services, Sagip-Hirap Charity Foundation, and Netizens TV last month.

Also just last month, SPUP was recognized in the annual World’s Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Ranking. Of the top 50  universities evaluated and ranked, SPUP was 20th place in Fourth Industrial Revolution category, 33rd in Ethical Value, 38th on Crisis Management and 49th on Student Mobility and Openness.
