Also part of the celebration is the launching of the “Kaapuan: Benguet Heritage Series,” a coffee table book published by the provincial government which aims to preserve and promote the rich history of the province of Benguet.
The book will be presented by University of the Philippines College of Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Jimmy Fong.
The provincial officials will also lead the ceremonial beating of the Unity Gong while cultural performances will be presented by the Benguet Capitol Cultural Dance Troupe.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the province of Benguet opted to conduct the program at the Capitol as an information education and communication (IEC) on the Cordillera autonomy and to encourage more people of Benguet to support the advocacies for regional autonomy.
The activity is a prelude to the 35th Cordillera Day main celebration to be held at the Baguio Convention Center on Friday, July 15.
This year’s celebration is being hosted by the RDC – Regional Social Development Committee Chaired by DSWD-CAR Regional Director Arnel Garcia with Mountain Province as the host province.
Last week, the provincial government kicked off the Cordillera Month celebration with the opening of the Cordillera Month Art Exhibit at the Capitol Lobby.
Benguet will also participate in the search for the Mr. and Ms. Cordillera Autonomy Youth Ambassadors to be represented by Ms. Benguet 2019 Malou Saguidec and Mr. Adivay 2019 Jones Aban. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
