LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) -- The provincial celebration of the 35th Cordillera Month will be done at the Benguet provincial capitol on Wednesday, July 13.

Governor Melchor Diclas, Vice Governor Ericson Felipe and Sangguniang Panlalawigan members will lead the program at the Ben Palispis Hall which will be attended local chief executives, elders, other officials and representatives from local government units, national line agencies and other advocates and supporters of the Cordillera autonomy.

Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative and Board Member Recto Alawas will open the program with indigenous prayers.

Former Regional Development Council Vice Chair and NEDA-Cordillera Regional Director Milagros Rimando will give a talk on the pursuit of the Cordillera regional autonomy and development anchored on this year’s theme,  “One Autonomous Cordillera: Ensuring Social Development and Inclusive Growth in the New Normal.”

Also part of the celebration is the launching of the “Kaapuan: Benguet Heritage Series,” a coffee table book published by the provincial government which aims to preserve and promote the rich history of the province of Benguet.

The book will be presented by University of the Philippines College of Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Jimmy Fong.

The provincial officials will also lead the ceremonial beating of the Unity Gong while cultural performances will be presented by the Benguet Capitol Cultural Dance Troupe.

The activity is a prelude to the 35th Cordillera Day main celebration to be held at the Baguio Convention Center on Friday, July 15.

This year’s celebration is being hosted by the RDC – Regional Social Development Committee Chaired by DSWD-CAR Regional Director Arnel Garcia with Mountain Province as the host province.

Last week, the provincial government kicked off the Cordillera Month celebration with the opening of the Cordillera Month Art Exhibit at the Capitol Lobby.

Benguet will also participate in the search for the Mr. and Ms. Cordillera Autonomy Youth Ambassadors to be represented by Ms. Benguet 2019 Malou Saguidec and Mr. Adivay 2019 Jones Aban. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
