BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- Philippine Military Academy (PMA) received over the weekend 350 new cadets who will compose Class of 2026.
In his message during the Oath-taking Ceremony and Reception Rites of PMA Class 2026 on Saturday, July 9, Acting Superintendent BGen. Julius Tomines emphasized the importance of the education and training that the new cadets will undergo in the Academy.
"The training might be very challenging but rest assured that it will hone you to become professional military officers imbued with character based on the values of courage, integrity, and loyalty," Tomines said.
He emphasized that indecent and abusive activities has no room in PMA.
"In this Academy, we do not tolerate dishonor, mediocre, and maltreatment. We are very serious in this effort. It takes the entire PMA community to raise our cadets well. Let us co-own the training and co-create innovations to strategically and effectively perform our mandated tasks," he added.
He also enjoined the new cadets to keep on having a positive attitude and never give up until they fulfill their dreams.
The oath-taking ceremony signified the acceptance of the incoming cadets to the Cadet Corps -Armed Forces of the Philippines and marks the beginning of a challenging life of being a cadet. It is an oath for them to accept the responsibility of the profession they have chosen and a reminder in order to instill the dedication to the profession of arms.
This was followed by the traditional Reception Rites, a simple yet profoundly meaningful ceremony to test and gauge the physical and mental stamina of a plebe through a series of fast-paced physical activities supervised by the members of the training directorate. It also signals the start of the regimented military life and gradual transformation from a civilian into a professional and disciplined young military leader.
Out of the 37,651 cadet applicants who applied for the PMA Entrance Examination last year, 24,288 were qualified to take the said examination in 45 testing centers nationwide, of which 1,211 passed but 888 reported for the medical and physical examination at the AFP Health Service Command.
After rigid physical and medical examinations were conducted, only 350 cadets were selected. (JDP/DEG-PIA CAR)
