DOH CHD-1 urges public to do 4S vs dengue

SAN FERNANDO CITY, July 14 (PIA) – The Department of Health-Ilocos Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 1) encourages the public to observe the 4S Strategy against dengue to control mosquito population and avoid dengue infection or death in communities.

In an interview with Medical Officer IV Rheuel Bobis during an episode of Kapihan sa Ilocos on Thursday, he reiterated the call for the public to Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites; practice Self-protection measures; Seek early consultation; and Support fogging.

“Tanggalin o linisan natin ‘yong mga stagnant o hindi dumadaloy na tubig na gustong-gustong pamahayan ng mga lamok at magsuot ng mga mahahabang damit o gumamit ng mga insect repellant,” Bobis said.

He added, “Kung nakaramdam na ng mga sintomas ay agad na magpakonsulta at higit sa lahat ay suportahan ang fogging kapag nasa epidemic level na.”

Bobis emphasized that fogging must be properly done and with accordance to standard procedures or just when there is already dengue clustering along households or neighborhoods.

Meanwhile, based on the DOH CHD-1’s surveillance, the Ilocos Region had already recorded a total of 1,198 dengue cases this year as of July 5.

Most of the cases were reported in Pangasinan with 583 infections; 248 in Ilocos Sur; 235 in Ilocos Norte; 99 in La Union; and 33 in Dagupan City.

Bobis cited that the infections recorded this year are 77 percent lesser compared to the cases in the same period last year. (JCR/AMB/CGRC, PIA Region 1)
