Celebrate National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week with these events, activities

QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- Join the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) in celebrating the 44th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week this July.

With the theme, “Pamahalaan kabalikat sa Pagtupad ng Pantay na Edukasyon, Trabaho at Kabuhayan, tungo sa Pagpapalakas ng Taong May Kapansanan,” various organizations will conduct online and in person activities such as webinars, workshops, and museum tour. 

The week-long celebration will highlight issues that directly affect Persons with Disability such as Family Support and Development; Education; Employment and Livelihood; Health; and Local Government Concerns. 

Here are the official activities announced by the NCDA:

Webinar

Starting July 17 until July 23, NCDA will conduct webinars in partnership with organizations such as Save the Children Philippines, ADHD Society of the Philippines, and Autism Society of the Philippines about the Inclusive Learning with Project ARAL and Project SCOP, as well as a discussion about family support group and the business guide for entrepreneurs with ADHD.

Moreover, government agencies like Commission on Elections, Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and Department of Health will share their knowledge on disability and pregnancy, financial management, voters’ registration and Accessible Polling Places.

Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines will discuss Republic Act 11650, which is about the inclusion and services for learners with disability.

Young at Art – Art Workshop 

Mr. Fari Apolonio and Ms. Dahlia Barcelona-Abadicio of the Philippine Association for Citizens with Developmental and Learning Disabilities, Inc. (PACDLD) will conduct an art workshop on July 20 at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the NCDA-DRDC building.

Children with developmental and learning difficulties can get counseling support and training from PACDLD, as well as assistance with health and educational services. 

Rizal Park Guided Tour 

Persons with Disabilities will be given a guided tour of the Rizal Park by the renowned Public Historian Xiao Chua on July 18, Monday.

Attendees will visit the Independence Flagpole, Rizal Monument, Noli Me Tangere Garden, Martydom of Dr. Jose Rizal, and Gomburza Marker.

The tour will be conducted after the Stop and Salute Flag Raising Ceremony at Luneta, which will be led by the National Parks Development Committee.

Art and Disability 20/20

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts will open a special exhibit on July 18 highlighting the artworks of artists with disabilities during their visual journaling sessions that began in the height of the pandemic in 2020.

The exhibit will feature works of 90 artists at the Farmer’s Plaza Atrium in Quezon City until July 23, 2022. 

Aside from the said activities, the Department of Social Welfare and Development will give out hygiene kits and meals to employees with disabilities and to Crisis Intervention Unit clients who are persons with disabilities and senior citizens at the DSWD Central Office in Quezon City on July 22, 2022.
