Nunungan marks 56th founding anniv with new government center, boosting eco-tourism

NUNUNGAN, Lanao del Norte (PIA) -- The town here celebrated its 56th Founding Anniversary on July 16 - 17, two years since the COVID-19 pandemic put events to a grinding halt.

Highlighting the town's 56th anniversary was the turnover and inauguration of its newly built modern government center in Barangay Abaga followed by a mini concert at Nunungan Lake by GMA-7 artists Ken Chan and Teejay Marquez.

“This is a proof na ang Nunungan ngayon [that Nunungan] is very peaceful na. The fact Nunungan had been deprived from peace and development, for past decades to be exact 30-long years, ngayon  naging peaceful, developed na ang nunungan although di  pa tapos ang lahat pero sinusustain natin kung ano meron tayo," said Mayor Marcos Mamay.

Other entertainments held at Nunungan Lake  were motocross competition, camp and chill with live band and fireworks display.

As the town awaits the official declaration of Mt. Inayawan as ASEAN Heritage Park, the first ever mountain climbing dubbed "Kalilintad Climb"  was also  held.

The town, which used to be called the "Rido or Clan Feuds Capital of the Philippines"  is now poised to be the "Wildberries Capital of the Philippines."

Three barangays are set to start their strawberry farms.

The town also houses two more lakes, four falls and five caves that beckon tourists to see and experience.  (LELA/PIA-10-Lanao del Norte)
