QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost) reported more than 14 million national identification (ID) cards have been distributed across the country as of this month.
In the Laging Handa public briefing on Monday, PhilPost Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer Norman Fulgencio noted as of July 8, 2022, 14,033,000 out of 14,800,000 national IDs were already delivered.
Fulgencio added there are still more than 700,000 IDs to be delivered but as of July 16, the figure may have already been reduced to 50 percent.
Amid numerous complaints on the delays in the distribution of national IDs, Fulgencio clarified it is not PhilPost that should be blamed.
“We only receive these IDs for distribution. The Philpost is not in a better position to explain the delay,” Fulgencio expressed.
According to Fulgencio, the agency has been coordinating with local government units, particularly barangay officials, for a “plaza-type” distribution of national IDs and in case the recipients are not in their homes to receive it.
Under the policy, only the owner of the national ID is allowed to receive it.
To check the status of their ID cards, Fulgencio advised the public to visit the agency’s website http://tracking.phlpost.gov.ph.
Fulgencio emphasized if the applicant’s name does not appear in the status bar, this means that the PhilPost has not yet received the copy of the national ID from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). (JAFD/PIA-IDPD)
