VIGAN CITY, July 29 (PIA)— Senator Maria Imelda Josefa “Imee” R. Marcos donated P1,000,000 to the earthquake-hit province of Ilocos Sur upon her visit on Thursday, July 28.
The senator also provided ten boxes of noodles and five boxes of milk products to the province.
During her visit, she also inspected the damages left by the magnitude 7.0 quake on Wednesday.
Senator Marcos landed at the Vigan City Airport in Barangay Mindoro, Vigan City early Thursday morning.
At the airport, Ilocos Sur Governor Jeremias “Jerry” Singson, Vice Governor Ryan Luis Singson, former governor Luis “Chavit” Singson, Ilocos Sur First District Representative Ronald Singson and Vigan City Mayor Jose “Bonito” Singson, Jr. provided her a briefing of the initial impacts of the disaster and the current situation of the people.


The senator was accompanied by Vice Governor Singson as she assessed the damages on the St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral and Bell Tower in Vigan City, Watch/Bell Tower at St. Augustine Parish Church in Bantay, and the Our Lady of Hope Parish Church in Caoayan.


On his personal social media account, the vice governor expressed his gratitude to the senator, “Maraming salamat Sen. Imee Marcos sa pagbisita at tulong na binigay mo para sa Ilocos Sur!”
After her assessment on the state of the province, she flew to Ilocos Norte and to the epicenter of the earthquake, the province of Abra where she attended a meeting with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr., some cabinet secretaries, local officials and the earthquake victims.
Meanwhile, the President, aboard a Philippine Air Force plane, also flew to the province with the Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr., Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Erwin Tulfo, Department of National Defense Secretary Jose Faustino, Jr., and other cabinet members at roughly 9:26a.m. on Thursday.
