BONTOC, Mountain Province (PIA)--The provincial government through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office(PDRRMO) recently conducted the 1st Mountain Province Rescue Olympics in line with the observance of the 2022 National Disaster Resilience Month with the theme "Sambayanang Pilipino, Nagkakaisa tungo sa Katatagan at Maunlad na Kinabukasan.”
The Rescue Olympics held last July 22 at the Eyeb Grounds in this capital town, aimed to strengthen the capabilities and showcase the skills of responders during rescue operations, and promote resiliency among communities. It was participated by the municipalities of Barlig, Bauko, Besao, Bontoc, Paracelis, Sabangan, Sagada and Tadian.
The participants competed in eight stations to determine their preparedness in disaster response . It started with a quiz bee to test their knowledge of disaster risk reduction and management, followed by the obstacle courses wherein different disaster simulations were portrayed including rope tying, basic life support and proper administration of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) , transport of patient, water bucket and fire extinguisher relay and putting off of fire.
The municipality of Besao emerged the champion and will receive P50,000.00 cash prize. The municipality of Sagada finished second, and Paracelis at third and will receive P30,000.00 and P20,000.00 prize, respectively.
The other participating municipalities will get consolation prize of P10,000.00 each.
“We wish to give our emergency responders a venue through which they can observe their counterparts, and at the same time showcase their skills in various settings,” PDRRM Officer Atty. Edward F. Chumawar Jr.
Confident that such initiative further enhances the knowledge and skills of emergency responders in the different local government units,
Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr. announced that the Rescue Olympics will be conducted yearly.
The 1st Rescue Olympics was in partnership with the provincial offices of the Department of Health Office, Philippine Red Cross and Bureau of Fire Protection.(JDP/VJLT-PIA CAR)
