LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) -- The Philippine National Police – Health Services(HS) led the launching of the Enhanced Monitoring of Police Overall Wellness (EMPOw) program at the police regional headquarters here with the aim of prioritizing the health and wellness of Cordillera police personnel.
PNP – HS Acting Director PCol. Jezebel D. Medina with Police Regional Office(PRO)-Cor Regional Director PBGEN. Ronald Lee, Deputy RD for Operations PCol. Benjamin Sembrano, Regional Medical and Dental Unit Chief PCol. Jessiemyr Protacio and Dr. Shelly Aral of the Department of Health-CAR representing Regional Director Dr. Rio Magpantay, launched on July 26 the health and wellness program with the theme, “Serbisyong Pangkalusugan Para sa Pulis Cordillera.”
Under the new EMPOW, services offered to police officers include medical and consultations, basic laboratory exams, optical, flu vaccination, mental health activity, lectures on the psychology of weight loss, and free medicines and vitamins as well as eye glasses for the police to ensure efficient and effective delivery of police services.
Medina explained that the objectives of the program are to protect healthy PNP personnel from acquiring lifestyle diseases, identify common health risk factors prevalent among PNP personnel through the annual physical screening, manage and treat health risk factors detected by the medical officer through patient education, follow-up check-ups, and continuous medication and monitor patients’ compliance and response to treatment through quarterly visitation and by subjecting them to laboratory examination every six months.
Protacio said the program will also be rolled out in the different provinces and cities in the Cordillera region.
During the ceremony, the DOH-CAR thru Dr. Aral turned over trauma kits to the PNP-HS, which distributed these to the provincial and city medical and dental units of the PRO-Cor. The trauma kits contain rapid antigen test kits, assorted medicines, first aid, multivitamins and personal protective equipment.
The PRO-Cor RMDU also turned over dentures to the beneficiaries in PROCor as part of the PRO-CORE or the Comprehensive, Oral Rehabilitation and Education Program “Bagong Ngiti sa dating Ngebu.”
The RMDU also received various medicines and IT equipment from the PNP-HS for additional logistical support for the programs of the unit.
Medina and Lee also turned over vitamins, meds and hygiene kits from the PNP-HS to the initial batch of PROCor personnel who will undergo the program.
Lee expressed gratitude to the PNP-HS for bringing the EMPOw program to the region to ensure healthy and fit Cordillera cops. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
