Bolstering nutrition programs pushed as Nutrition Month culminates

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- The National Nutrition Council - Cordillera (NNC-CAR) calls for strengthening policies, programs and services to fight malnutrition during the culmination of the 48th Nutrition Month celebration on August 3.


"We are not ending our rally with the celebration for this month only. This is a beginning, a call towards eliminating malnutrition and strengthening policies, programs and services," Dr. Anachris Kilakil of the Department of Health - Cordillera stated.

Kilakil emphasized the significance of NuTRI Achieve. It stresses on the need to Nurture nutrition to build resilience and protect the communities against any infection, Transform and scale up nutrition interventions, Reinforce continued solidarity, and Integrate proper nutrition, preservation, and promotion as resilience strategy.


It is also important to raise awareness on the importance of nutrition in resilience, and engage various sectors in the conduct of activities to promote nutrition, she added.

Nutrition Foundation of the Philippines, Inc. Executive Director Maria Lourdes Vega, in her virtual keynote message, underlined the importance of the concerted efforts of various agencies, the local government units, and the community in achieving the goals of nutrition programs.


She  expounded on the need for increased coverage of nutrition-specific intervention that are happening because of convergence, collaboration  and coordination  to improve  or bring back better  nutrition programs  in the new normal.

OIC Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Bella Basalong urged everyone to help in battle against malnutrition at all times.


"We hope that we continue playing our individual parts in fighting all forms of malnutrition as we transition to a better new normal. Our individual efforts, no matter how small, as long as combined will lead to enormous results as we walk the path towards improved nutrition in the region and in the country,” said Balisong.

To further highlight and promote proper nutrition especially under the new normal, the NNC-CAR spearheaded two competitions, the Tiktok Video Nutri-Challenge and Cordillera Nutrisong Contest 2022 Season 3 promoting the  theme,   "New Normal na Nutrisyon, Sama-samang Gawan ng Solusyon."
 
For the Tiktok Video Nutri-Challenge, Faith Banganan emerged the winner, and Erlyne Penaroyo at second place and Jim Kis-ing in third.  Jheily Ramirez and Yvette Bawing received consolation prize.
 
For the Cordillera Nutrisong Contest 2022 Season 3, the entry of the province of Benguet represented by the Tuel Barangay Nutrition Committee won first place with a cash prize of P30, 000 and   Certificate of Recognition.  

In second and third place are   Ifugao and Kalinga, respectively.  Ifugao    gets cash prize of P25, 000 and P20, 000 for Kalinga as well as certificate of recognition.

Entries of Abra, Apayao, Baguio City, and Mountain Province were also given with certificate of recognition and consolation prize of P7, 000 each

Meanwhile, the entry of the province of Benguet won first place on the Cordillera Nutrisong Contest 2022 Season 3. The province represented by the Tuel Barangay Nutrition Committee was conferred with a Certificate of Recognition and will receive a cash prize of P30,000.
 
The province of Ifugao garnered the second place receiving a Certificate of Recognition and cash prize of P25,000. Third place is the province of Kalinga receiving a Certificate of Recognition and cash prize of P20,000.
 
Entries of Abra, Apayao, Baguio City, and Mountain Province were also accorded with Certificate of Recognition and consolation prize of P7,000 each. (DEG)
