DTI 6 trains ‘consumer protectors’

ILOILO CITY (PIA) – Consumer protection personnel of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), both from the regional and provincial offices in Western Visayas, underwent a two-day training to ensure that the agency’s monitoring and enforcement activities are accurate.

During the Training on Appreciation of Calibrated Measuring Instruments held August 4 to 5 here, DTI Regional Director Rebecca Rascon stressed the importance of using measuring equipment that provide accurate results in the DTI’s monitoring and enforcement activities.

Rascon noted that through the training, their monitoring and enforcement personnel are equipped  with knowledge and expertise to ensure that establishments and firms that are engaged in selling products under mandatory certification are within the standards set by law, said DT6 Information Officer Judy Mae Sajo in a press release.

The trainees here were provided with theoretical and practical knowledge in using various calibrated measuring instruments.

According Sajo, the regional head emphasized that the proper conduct of monitoring and enforcement do not only rely on the instrument’s readiness but also on the people who use them.

Resource persons during the event were Mark V. Rosales and Kirk A. Aguirre from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Meteorology Office.

Sajo said that the measuring instruments utilized by DTI for monitoring and enforcement actions were calibrated last year by the DOST-Meteorology Office also.

Meanwhile, Rascon vowed that DTI 6 will continue to conduct simultaneous monitoring and enforcement activities to enable a better marketplace and protect consumers from unfair trade practices. (JBG-PIA6/Story and photos from DTI6)
