OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA)--Around 150 job order and contract of service workers will get social security coverage after Social Security Service (SSS) Oroquieta Branch and the local government of Plaridel signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to provide social protection to workers in the local government not covered by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
Plaridel Mayor Gadwin Handumon led the MOA signing with SSS Vice President for Mindanao Edwin M. Alo and SSS Oroquieta Branch Head Simon Jude Obut on August 11 at Catalina Hall, this city.
Handumon emphasized that LGU Plaridel is committed to providing equal opportunity for all personnel, especially those working in contractual or job order positions to enjoy the benefits of social security.
“Gusto nako ipaabot sa pinakaubos nga katawhan sa atong area nga gitagaan gyud nato sila ug importansya ug ipaabot nato ang atong serbisyo nga tinud-anay gikan sa kasing-kasing para sa atoang mga ultimo (I want to convey to the less fortunate in our area that we really care about them and we will extend our service truly from the heart),” Handumon said.
He also shared his commitment, saying, his office will work together to implement the MOA.
"We are not just here to sign the MOA, We are here to sign and implement whatever it is in the MOA," he said.
Meanwhile, Alo shared the mission of SSS to provide social security protection to all self-employed persons and other qualified Filipino workers against the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old age, death, and other contingencies.
“Sa panahon unya nga kini sila may mga panginahanglan tingali makita nila kung unsa ka importante nga aduna sila’y pagpangandam sa ilang kaugalingon kung moabot ang kakulian sa ilang kinabuhi ug sa ilaha usab mga dependents ug beneficiaries,” Alo said.
