DHSUD-CAR assures funding of housing projects in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development - Cordillera (DHSUD-CAR) assured the availability of funding for housing projects in the city.

"We are willing to give another grant or a socialized housing project here in Baguio City. We have funds for that, we are just waiting for the requirements," DHSUD-CAR Regional Director Maria Amoroso said during the Characterization and Analysis Seminar Workshop held recently.

The first socialized housing project in the city located in Irisan is now ongoing. Financed by the DHSUD and the National Housing Authority, two buildings will be initially constructed with 270 units up for award under socialized payment terms to qualified families.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office reported that they have received more than 200 applications for the said socialized housing program. The office is also verifying the list of 15,131 families in need of socialized housing in the city.

Amoroso said there are lots of programs and projects that are expected to be introduced in the city, but there is a need to identify the available land area to be developed, and who really needs housing. The concerned offices also need to analyze the provision of decent housing for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens.

"There are a  lot of things to consider in planning and your goals and objectives should be drivers towards the attainment of your vision as a smart city. Marami pang projects na gagawin natin not only for the below threshold beneficiaries but for the PNP (Philippine National Police), PWDs and senior citizens," she added.

She informed that the proposed housing for the PNP is  finalized.

Amoroso hopes that the City Planning Team composed of members of the multi-sectoral technical working groups, will finalize the technical findings and recommendations for a more holistic approach in planning for the city. (JDP/DEG-PIA CAR)
