Baguio PNP to enforce changes in traffic scheme on class opening

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- The Baguio City Police Office - Traffic Enforcement Unit (BCPO-TEU) is set to implement some changes in the traffic scheme in the city to ease traffic congestion  during  the opening of classes on August 22, 2022.

"Itong pababa ng General Luna going to Mabini, ico-close po natin 'yan from 6AM to 9AM then 4PM to 6PM. 'Yun 'yung isang nakikita natin diyan na mare-reimplement," BCPO-TEU chief PLtCol. Roldan Cabatan said during the Ugnayan Panlungsod  on Wednesday.

He added that some changes will also be enforced in parts of Leonard Wood Road and Dominican area. An adjustment will also be implemented for the smooth traffic flow on the road going to the biggest mall in the city.

Issuances are expected to be released ahead of the class opening.

Cabatan cited that one of the causes of traffic congestion especially on the roads going towards the schools is the lack of parking space for private vehicles dropping and picking up students.

"Ini-encourage sana namin sa mga private schools natin na bigyang priority 'yung school service na i-accommodate sila sa loob ng compound to drop and pick up 'yung mga bata sa loob ng eskwelahan," he said.

Meanwhile, Cabatan said that they will deploy additional police personnel in schools to ensure the safety of the learners. They will also help in the strict implementation of health and safety protocols against COVID-19 such as wearing of face mask and physical distancing.

Earlier, the PNP said that it will maximize the deployment of its personnel. Aside from traffic control, the PNP will also deploy transport marshals as well as PNP COVID patrollers to ensure the implementation of the minimum public health protocols. (JDP/DEG-PIA CAR)
