BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - - Soft broom makers in Aritao town has earned their first sales after delivering their products to a buyer in Talugtug, Nueva Ecija.
Marietta Salviejo, Department of Trade and InduStry (DTI) provincial director, said the soft broom makers of Aritao, who were earlier trained on the rudiments of soft broom making, were beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
“We assisted them through the skills training on soft broom making conducted in Aritao town in October last year and we are now proud to say that their dedication and passion have paid off,” she said.
Salviejo said the soft broom makers were further assisted through the town’s Negosyo Center in partnership with the DSWD and LGU of Aritao, thereby linking them to an institutional buyer who has 80 branches nationwide and vowed to buy over 1000 soft brooms per month.
She said the initial sales of the Aritao soft broom makers came in June this year after the delivery of the first batch of their products, generating P229,345 total sales for 1,700 soft brooms to the buyer’s warehouse.
Salviejo said the buyer is set to deliver the Aritao soft broom products to its other branches in the country.
She said the town of Aritao has been known as Nueva Vizcaya’s Handicraft Alley which showcases the handmade crafts and works of the villagers which include their famous soft brooms, making an appeal for customers due to their sturdiness and soft bristles. (OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya)
