LAMUT, Ifugao (PIA) - - The efforts and sacrifices of the Sto. Domingo Fisherfolks and Farmers Association (SDFFA) in Alfonso Lista town paid-off with the harvest of more than one metric ton of tilapia on August 12.
The SDFFA harvested a total of 1,083 kilos of tilapia from their one unit circular High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) fish cage installed at the Magat Dam reservoir. This was launched and stocked with tilapia fingerlings last year and part of the five HDPE cages provided by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Cordillera for the towns of Aguinaldo and Alfonso Lista.
The harvested tilapia were immediately transported to Mountain Province through the Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita Fish on Wheels of BFAR.,
SDFFA President Diosdado Bernal said that the proceeds of the produce will be utilized to strengthen their association which has 55 members (15 female, 40 male) towards enterprise development to benefit every member and the community as whole.
“We are not after the profit but build and establish a strong organization toward enterprise development,” Bernal said. “We plan to improve our association because we want that each member can learn how to manage the project,” he added.
BFAR and other local officials lauded the initiatives and efforts of the organization for their livelihood project to success.
BFAR CAR Regional Director Lilibeth L. Signey pointed out that a successful livelihood project is attestation that recipients are truly serious about the livelihood intervention from the government. (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
