47 families in Pangasinan evacuated due to Florita

DAGUPAN CITY (PIA) – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has recorded 47 families or 159 individuals evacuated from their homes in different parts of Pangasinan due to flooding caused by severe tropical storm (STS) Florita as of 7a.m. Wednesday.

PDRRMC chair Rhodyn Luchinvar Oro said the families were from the towns of Lingayen, Bani, Mabini and Alaminos City.

He said that his office is continuously monitoring the situation of the province on the effects of STS Florita.

Meanwhile, in alignment to the President’s order and for the safety of Pangasinenses, classes in all levels in public and private schools, and work in government institutions are suspended today, August 24 due to the effects of Typhoon Florita.

Governor Ramon Guico III issued Executive Order No. 0128-2022 on Tuesday declaring the suspension.

“Water from the upstream and its tributaries brought by STS Florita is expected to affect the major and allied rivers in Pangasinan which may pose danger to our communities,” Guico said.

He added, “Those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services.”

In Dagupan City, classes in all levels and work in government offices and agencies, except those involved in disaster response, remain suspended due to high tide, compounded by the water coming from upstream as lingering effects of Typhoon Florita continue.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Field Office 1 assured enough supply of family food packs for affected residents in Region 1.

As of 9p.m. of August 23, the DSWD has stock on-hand of 23,090 family food packs for the region positioned at the regional and satellite warehouses amounting to P14,767,438.75.

Aside from food packs, the DSWD also prepared 11,736 non-food items such as family kits, hygiene kits, kitchen kits, sleeping kits, laminated sacks, family tents, and modular tents worth P31,702,560.36 that are available for distribution to the provinces.

In Pangasinan, the DSWD has prepared stocks of non-food items  in its warehouses located in Rosales (92 packs), Sta. Barbara (660), and Alaminos City (641).

Florita is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). (JCR/AMB/PIA Pangasinan)
