37th Kadayawan Festival, a success

DAVAO CITY (PIA) - The recently held 37th Kadayawan sa Davao was a success, this according to Davao City’s Second District Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre.

“All I can say is that this year’s Kadayawan is very successful, malambuon ang pagsaulog sa atong festival (we had a flourishing celebration of our festival) this is the first Kadayawan of Mayor Baste Duterte as he took office last July 1,” says Councilor Alejandre who is a member of the Kadayawan Executive Committee and who served as the festival’s spokesperson.

Despite the short preparations the celebration was very overwhelming. “You can see the excitement of the people, as they returned to the streets you can see their eagerness, not just the people watching but also the participants,” Alejandre said.

The 37th Kadayawan Festival is the first face-to-face Kadayawan after 2019 as the festival in 2020 and 2021 were held online due to the pandemic.

Alejandre said based on full hotel bookings and visitor arrivals they were able to breach the 50,000 visitor arrival targets. The city dad added that he will ask data from the City Tourism Operations Office on the visitor arrivals during the festival which was held from August 15 until August 21.

Alejandre attributed the success to the support of the City Government ledMayor Sebastian Duterte and the hard work  of the multi-sectoral Execom, the private sector partners led by Dr. Malou Monteverde, president of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industries Incorporated (DCCCII), the subcommittees, sponsors, event organizers, and also to the security sector for making the Kadayawan peaceful and orderly.

“Everyone will be commended; I actually passed a commendation regarding this matter na pagpasidungog  (to commend) sa atoang  execom, subcommittees and sponsors,” he added.

He said as a way to improve the holding of next year’s 38th Kadayawan Alejandre said that in a discussion of Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dr. Malou Monteverde they would want the planning of the festival to start earlier.

“Para amoa pang mapagwapo ug mapanindot ang pagcelebrate sa atoang Kadayawan (So we can make the celebration of our Kadayawan more beautiful and nicer our celebration of the Kadayawan),” Alejandre said. (PIA/RG Alama)
