CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) – The Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) MIMAROPA recently distributed cows to 30 farmer beneficiaries who are members of the Aagapay sa Asosasyon Kabuhayang Pangkaunlaran (AAKAP) in Brgy. Maligaya, Gloria.
The distribution is part of the livestock livelihood program of DA that aims to help farmers and eventually provide them additional income.
DA Mimaropa Regional Director Antonio G. Gerundio said the members of the organization would have extra income with the availability of livestock programs being offered in the community.
“The person who has given membership for this opportunity would have expected a domestic cow to care for and earn. The offspring of these animals will be distributed to other members of the organization who had not yet availed the program,” Gerundio said.
Based on DA Administrative Order No. 03 series of 2007, the agency is continuously implementing the National Livestock Program to accelerate livestock development and contribute to the objectives of food security and increase farmers’ income.
Moreover, the local government continues to support the association by providing the beneficiaries with education about the proper care and ways of multiplying the number of animals for the beneficiaries of the program. (LTC/PIA MIMAROPA)
