Fruit fest in Sablan set on Sept. 2 to 4

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) -- The local government of Sablan will celebrate its 8th Fruit Festival on September 2 to 4 strictly adhering to the COVID-19 protocols.


With this year’s theme,”An Abundant Bountiful Direction,” the festival focuses on promoting the locally grown fruits of Sablan as the “fruit capital of Benguet”, Mayor Alfredo Dacumos Jr. said.


The three-day event will kick off on Sept.  2 with a Eucharistic celebration at the municipal grounds, to be followed by opening program with Vice Governor Ericson Felipe as the guest of honor and speaker.

The officials will also open the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair in front of the Satellite Market in Poblacion,  which will feature various fruits, vegetables and other products of the municipality.  


The opening day will also be highlighted by Fresh Fruit Medley Presentation and Serving.


 Fruit processing and special competitions will be featured on Sept. 3 starting at 8AM at the municipal gymnasium.


Competitions include the search for novel, domestic and exotic fruits; the heaviest banana brunch and jackfruit; sweetest papaya, pomelo, guyabano and pineapple; innovative product (fruit based) preparation and presentation, and Search for Sablan’s Best Fruit Pie.


Dacumos said that to enhance the knowledge of farmers in the municipality, a Farmer’s Congress will also be conducted on Sept. 4 at the municipal gym.


 Invited speakers are experts from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Office of the Provincial Veterinary, Agriculture Training Institute – Cordillera and from the private sector such as the Dulche Chocolates.


Other activities include Invitational Friendship Games, the Sablan’s Got Talent and the TNT Lucky Bingo sa Sablan.


The event was suspended for two years due to the pandemic.(JDP/RMC-PIA-CAR)
