BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- The Committee on Indigenous Peoples' Concerns (CIPC) of the Regional Development Council and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples - Cordillera (NCIP-CAR) are preparing for the celebration of Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month and the commemoration of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) in October.
NCIP-CAR Regional Director and CIPC Chairperson Atty. Atanacio Addog presented during the 3rd Quarter CIPC meeting on August 25 the initial list of activities of the celebration that will kickoff last week of September.
These include CIPC Webinar Series to be conducted every Wednesday for the whole month of October, and a Cordillera Festival Show on October 8 to showcase all provincial and city festivals in the region by the Department of Tourism.
The NCIP-CAR is consolidating activities of other agencies including state universities and colleges.
"It's actually the commemoration of the signing of the RA 8371, the IPRA which was signed on October 29, 1997. We'll be celebrating the 25th year of IPRA," Addog said.
The CIPC also approved during the meeting the endorsement to the RDC of a resolution enjoining all government agencies, local government units, SUCs, non-government organizations and the private sector in the Cordillera Administrative Region to support the observance of the IP Month and the commemoration of the IPRA.
Also presented during the meeting are updates on the status of IP Mandatory Representatives in the region, and highlights of the 2020 Census of Population and Housing from the Philippine Statistics Authority - Cordillera. (JDP/DEG-PIA CAR)
