First youth center in Zambo City transforms to digital center

ZAMBOANGA CITY, August 31 (PIA) – The Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) launches the first barangay-based Digital Transformation Center through the Centro de los Jovenes en Participacion in Mercedes, Zamboanga City.

DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy led the launching on August 20, 2022 together with Assistant Secretary Maria Teresa Camba, Zamboanga City Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja and Sanggunian Kabataan Federation President Cary John Pioc.

The launching of youth center as digital center aims to cater more youth for digital skills and easy access to internet and equipment especially in new normal education. According to DICT secretary, it is important to give extra attention to the youth by giving them the right tools, equipment and right internet accessibility to aid them to be skilled and focus in their studies.

“This is a milestone for digitalizing the regions now, the citizens of Zamboanga City can enjoy innovation hub that will cater to their information communication ang technology needs,” Sec. Uy said.

Digital Transformation Center is a program under DICT that will aid Filipinos in harnessing and acquiring high level ICT skills from trainings, innovative collaboration, knowledge sharing and strengthen local talents with world class digital skills.  

Moreover Sec. Uy commend the Sangguniang Kabataan Officials of Barangay Mercedes for their efforts and initiative to build a center for the youth and allocating their funds to relevant projects.

Aside from the launching of the new digital youth center, DICT also launched new sites connected to the government’s free internet program through the expanded Zamboanga-Basilan Broadband Project and Government Network projects.

Meanwhile, DICT Sec. Uy also led the ground breaking ceremony of another DTC at DICT Talon-talon Office, Zambonga City the center will provide basic to advance ICT skills for Persons with Disabilities, Women and Senior Citizens.
