2-day LTOPF caravan begins in Antique

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Office 6 License to Operate and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) caravan team is currently in this capital town for a two-day LTOPF and firearms registration at Robinsons Place Antique from September 1 to 2.

The regional LTOPF caravan, following the directive of the Chief PNP, visits various towns and cities in Western Visayas to trim down the number of loose firearms and promote accountability among firearms owners.

The caravan intends to be a convergence of services and seeks to provide concerned individuals with a one-stop venue for processing requirements such as neuro-psychiatric exam, drug test, police clearance, and notarized documents.

In a press briefing, August 30, Regional Civil Security Unit (RCSU) 6 Firearms and Explosives Section chief Police Lt. Richard Lumbres said that there are some 1800 expired firearms licenses in Antique province, 461 of which are from San Jose town.

Lumbres also emphasized that owners must deposit their firearms in the nearest police station pending registration renewal, and noted that “paltik” and other types of improvised or homemade firearms are illegal and must be surrendered, as well.

The police officer then clarified that the LTOPF, a pre-requisite in firearms registration, allows owners to confine their firearms only within their primary and secondary addresses, different from a PTCFOR or Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence.

Meanwhile, San Jose Vice Mayor Delfin Justin Encarnacion expressed his gratitude to the police force for bringing the caravan into the province and urged Antiqueños to be disciplined enough to process their LTOPF and have their firearms registered.

Event participant and retired army 2LT. Edgar Alcoriza said that it is befitting to renew his registration as a former army personnel and noted that this caravan allows for a lesser expense of his time and resources.

He also wishes for the LTOPF caravan to continue in the years to come as this brings easier and more comfortable means of firearms registration.

The Antique-leg of the regional LTOPF caravan is a collaboration between the

Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6), the Local Government Unit (LGU) and the Municipal Police Station (MPS) of San Jose de Buenavista, and Robinsons Place Antique. (AAL/BPS/PIA Antique)
