NAPOLCOM-Region 1 leads National Crime Prevention Week celeb

SAN FERNANDO CITY (PIA) -- The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM)-Region 1 spearheads the celebration of the National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW).

NCPW is an observance every first week of September of every year by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 461 series of 2021 signed by President Fidel V. Ramos on August 31, 1994.

The celebration aims to generate community awareness, value of crime prevention, and foster interest and encourage participation of the general public in the government’s programs.

Also, it highlights the intensified implementation of projects and activities by the different agencies and various sectors of society to prevent crime and deliver justice.

Ms. Fatima Alviarne, chief of the Human Resource Management Section of NAPOLCOM-Region 1, underscores the need to adopt a total approach in combating criminality with the active participation of the five pillars of the criminal justice system during her interview on PIA's Tugstugan at Balitaan on August 30.

This year’s celebration is anchored with the theme, “Komunidad at Pamahalaan Magtulungan: Krimen, Korupsiyon, at Pandemya Labanan.”

“Sa gitna ng pandemya ay isinusulong natin ang ating adbokasiya laban sa krimen sa tulong ng komunidad, ang ating gobyerno, iba’t ibang ahensya, at non-government organizations,” said Ms. Fatima Alviarne, chief of the Human Resource Management Section of NAPOLCOM-Region 1, in an interview over PIA's Tugstugan at Balitaan.

A virtual NCPW kick off ceremony was participated by police provincial offices, law enforcement units, partner national government agencies, and non-government organizations on September 1.

The simultaneous blowing of whistles was also done to signal the start of the celebration.

Moreover, a series of webinars will be staged for lectures on prosecution, law enforcement, and community coordinating service (PROLECS).

On the third and fourth day, an outreach program will be conducted wherein target beneficiaries are the youth offenders in the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth 1 in Bauang town.

On September 7, the week-long celebration will culminate.

Meanwhile, Alviarne underscored the need to adopt a total approach in combating criminality with the active participation of the five pillars of the criminal justice system.

“Ang ating pagtutulungan laban sa krimen ay hindi nagtatapos sa isang linggong selebrasyon dahil tuloy tuloy ang mga programa ng National Police Commission para sa ating kapulisan at komunidad,” she said.  (JCR/AMB/KJCR, PIA La Union)
