DTI activates price council, conducts market visit

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) - - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently activated the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) of Tobias Fornier (TF) town in  Antique to ensure the participation of various national government agencies with local counterparts, sectoral representatives such as consumer groups, businesses, farmers and transport sector among others.

DTI Antique Trade and Industry Development Specialist Glen Fernando,  in an interview, said that the local officials particularly the Sangguniang Bayan members and the Office of the Municipal Mayor showed enthusiasm for the plans and programs of the town to enhance the local economy by providing support services to the local entrepreneurs.

Among the proposed projects are the establishment of a Class A slaughter house, improvement of farm-to-market road, and setting up of a price monitoring board in the public market.

DTI  here, in coordination with the local government unit's (Municipal Economic Enterprise Development Office/Municipal Treasurer's Office) of Tobias Fornier also conducted the market visit and operation Timbangan in the public market of said town.

The activity involved the spot checking of weighing scales used by traders in the wet market, dried fish, vegetable and fruit, rice and grocery sections to check the accuracy and calibration of defective weighing scales

Likewise, the team also checked on the compliance of traders to Fair Trade Laws such as price tag, business name, standards and other laws implemented by the DTI.

Fernando said that the market visit is one of the strategies to protect consumers against unfair trade practices of unscrupulous traders. (JBG/PSM/PIA Antique)
